FBI Executes Court-Authorized Search Warrant at Fulton County Elections Office Near Atlanta

Federal Bureau of Investigation agents on Wednesday executed a court-authorized search warrant at the Fulton County elections office near Atlanta, authorities confirmed, in an operation tied to an ongoing investigation connected to the 2020 presidential election.

An FBI spokesperson said agents were “executing a court authorized law enforcement action” at the county’s main election facility in Union City, Georgia, just south of Atlanta, but declined to provide further details because the matter remains active. A Fulton County official also had no immediate comment on the search.

The search comes amid years of controversy surrounding Georgia’s 2020 elections, particularly in Fulton County — a focal point of former President Donald Trump’s repeated and unfounded claims that the election was rigged. Trump narrowly lost the state to President Joe Biden, and has regularly returned to allegations of election irregularities despite audits and court rulings finding no evidence of widespread fraud that would have changed the outcome.

Federal prosecutors and the Department of Justice have been seeking access to various election records, and last month sued a Fulton County court clerk for failing to produce documents related to the 2020 election, saying the refusal may violate the federal Civil Rights Act. Efforts by the conservative-controlled Georgia State Election Board to obtain and review archived ballots and other materials have also been tied up in legal disputes.

While the precise focus of Wednesday’s search — including whether ballots, records or voter data are being sought — has not been publicly disclosed, agents were seen at the Fulton County Election Hub and Operations Center, a facility opened in 2023 to help administer local elections.

The action underscores ongoing national tensions over election integrity and the handling of election records years after the 2020 contest, even as courts and election officials have repeatedly affirmed the legitimacy of the certified results. Both federal and local authorities are continuing to monitor and respond to developments as the search proceeds.
